The Blogger's Hut

Created by Scott Merrick aka Scottmerrick Oh in 2007, the Blogger's Hut (SLurl) resides on the International Society for Technology in Education's  (ISTE) islands and provides a headquarters for those interested in the educational blogosphere, with a particular focus on blogs which cover virtual worlds in education.

The Blogger's Hut hosts a monthly community vote which highlights educational blogs using an inworld polling station. Votes are collected for the featured Blog-o-the-month nominees whose RSS feed will be displayed all month in the RSS object also situated at the Hut. Past winners links are also displayed in the hut and provides a 3D snapshot of the educational blogosphere.

For further information read Scottmerrick Oh's Blog, or watch a video about the Bloggers Hut on the Second Life Education Videos Ning.

SLoodle - Learning Management System for Second Life

The SLoodle Project (SLurl) is an open Source project, which aims to bring together the features of web-based Learning Management Systems and virtual worlds environments such as Second Life. It was funded by the Eduserve Foundation (UK) in 2007.

The project is developing a set of free, full-perm objects in Second Life that transport content back and forth from Moodle. It can also help teachers and learners to record activities and achieve learning objectives in Second Life more effectively by including both virtual worlds activities and web-based content as part of the delivery strategy.

Current Sloodle experiments being undertaken by the team include the development of:

  • the Sloodle Toolbar, which adds blogging and gesturing tools to the SL interface via a HUD
  • a 'Chatcast' relay which allows participants both inworld and outside Second Life to interact via text-based chat
  • the 'Box Classroom Builder' which includes a number of simple tools which allow for the inclusion of moodle content within learning spaces in Second Life.

For more information visit the SLoodle website, read the SLoodle Blog, check out a presentation about SLoodle on Slideshare, visit the SLoodle wiki or watch a demo of SLoodle on Youtube.
