Philosophy and Religious Studies

Students of philosophy and religion can experience cultures, philosophies re-enactments of rituals and immersive exhibits in Second Life.

Religion Bazaar

Created by the School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics at the University of Queensland, the Religion Bazaar is a space for students to explore a number of different religious traditions through immersive experiences. Their private island in Second Life includes a church, a synagogue, a mosque, a Hindu temple, a Buddhist temple and a Freemasons Lodge, as well as spaces for discussions and presentations and some informal meeting spaces.

Religion Bazaar is also designed to use creative and immersive roleplays as part of religious studies. Students are able to adopt an identity and participate in a ritual or a re-creation. They can also swap roles to experience these events from another perspective. They must observe the traditions of that religion: shoes off, wash before entering, appropriate clothing only - male and female, and information and interactivities are provided to support learning.

For more information visit the Religion Bazaar Blog or watch a video about the Religion Bazaar on Youtube.
